I was asked a few years back to create a personalized bride and groom for my niece Kaitlyn's wedding cake. My daughter Rachel, the owner of Rachel O'Neil Event & Design, asked if I would like to display my wedding couples to her brides who would come to work on their flower arrangements with her. And so began the journey with my brides.

I have been in the art field for many years and have been a craftsman with paints, pencils, hammer and nails. I'm a ferocious knitter and love to put my hands in the soil, nurturing plants until they end up on my table. By means of decoration or dinner.

I've held the title of Illustrator, Graphic Designer, Art Director and Design Director. But none have given me more pleasure than Artist.

When I put together a couple for the cake, I ask the bride or groom to provide me with as much information on their styles as they can. Through photos or color swatches I can personalize the display to reflect who they are.

Some of the photo samples I use are:

• Hairstyles to be worn that day

• Wedding gown/dress/suits/tuxedos

• Color swatches

• Any "personality" they want to display such as favorite sports team

  or holiday references, etc.

• Pets
